Macau is definitely a favorite spot for tourists and we joined the crowds headed up the long stairs at "The Ruins of St Paul," a Catholic Church that burned to the ground except for the facade left after the fire. We felt the strong Portuguese influence as we walked the streets in the "Old City" and visited the Mount Fortress and Macao Museum. We sampled world famous beef jerky from street vendors and ate in a Portuguese Restaurant. Many casinos and hotels in the area lit up the night time skies with glitzy neon lights. A special treat was having dinner in the top of the revolving Macao Tower with an international buffet with everything imaginable to eat! We were serenaded at our table by a Central American musical trio and joined them in singing "Top of the World." What a memorable way to end our first week! One of the turbo jet ferries in the harbor carried us back to Hong Kong to prepare for our trip to Taiwan.

China Visit Day 1
The Shenzhen Splendid China Folk Culture Village was a great way to visit many of the places with historical significance in Chinese history without having to do more than take a long walk through a huge garden. We saw a scaled-down version of the Great Wall, many temples and Imperial Palaces, tombs and Buddhas. It helped us put the lengthy, colorful history of this country in perspective at the very beginning of our time here.
China Visit Day 2
Dongguan with it's small open air shops and restaurants felt far from Honk Kong. We were the only "foreigners" we saw in the city. It was here that we enjoyed a walk around a lake and by the woods near the vacation home of Vivian's family.

China Visit Day 3
Zhongshan brought many exciting adventures, some too long to mention here. Vivian's father came and joined us for part of the time. He treated us to a hot pot dinner at a local fish farm. We visited beautiful gardens, enjoyed learning about Dr Sun Yat-Sen. I enjoyed several sleepless hours on the balcony of the hotel during the quiet hours of early morning before the sun came up.
